About
The Times, Florida’s largest newspaper, has remained locally owned and independent for 138 years. The Times has chronicled the Tampa Bay region’s growth with integrity and style, winning 13 Pulitzer Prizes and numerous other awards along the way. In our collegial newsroom, interns work alongside staffers as equals, employing creative, modern storytelling in print and online.
What Are We Looking For
The most competitive candidates will be juniors, seniors and graduate students pursuing a career in news. In most cases, top applicants will have completed a prior professional news internship. They will be organized, collaborative and ready to learn quickly. We know great journalists come from a variety of nontraditional paths and backgrounds, so please share what you could bring to the Times. We appreciate candidates who bring bonus tools to this work, including language skills, the ability to analyze data and sift through public records.
What We Are Offering
This intern will use a blend of documents, data and shoe-leather reporting to bring light to injustice in our community for a period of 10 week beginning on June 1. They will pursue quick-strike accountability stories, human-focused and driven by deep reporting. Our team will coach the intern to key in on the steps every investigative reporter should follow, from requesting the right records to planning for confrontational interviews. They will practice tools to help identify patterns, form findings and challenge those findings along the way.
