Exciting things are in the works within the Society! With a full team on staff, the Ida B. Wells Society for Investigative Reporting is thrilled to announce some of the workshops and programs to come.
1. Virtual Training Sessions
If you loved the recent virtual training sessions back in February, more are in the works! Sessions are being planned to explore election-related topics, such as polling, gerrymandering, and misinformation. Other sessions will explore the environment and climate control and investigations in sports reporting Announcements are forthcoming. Remember to sign up and mark your calendars for these live events with our insightful and engaging panelists. Have topics you want us to explore? Email us at IBWS@morehouse.edu.
2. Summer Investigative Internship Program
Ten students and recent graduates will embark on summer-long internships with some of the nation’s top news outlets. The 10-12-week stints will hone their skills in investigative journalism. We will announce those talented and deserving interns in April!
3. High School-Collegiate Mentoring Programming
High school students from two Atlanta Public Schools (APS) and selected schools in three other cities will have the chance to learn the fundamentals of investigative reporting through a series of workshops and programs the Society will provide. The schools will be partnered with both collegiate and professional journalists. The program will launch this summer and continue through the school year. The goal is for students to apply what they learn to a journalistic project, catalyzing the first steps into their careers.
4. Investigative Reporting Workshops
The Society will hit the road with several investigative reporting boot camps across the country! We are in discussions with various universities and news organizations that will serve as hosts. Check back for updates and registration details to be a part of these useful sessions.
5. HBCU Investigative Workshop
In cooperation with Investigative Reporters and Editors (IRE), the Society will hold an investigative reporting workshop for HBCU students in the Southeast region, including schools in Georgia, Tennessee, Alabama, South Carolina, and North Carolina.
6. Open-Source Investigations (OSINT) and Digital Investigations In-Person Training
Add more to your investigative toolbox by learning about Open-Source Investigations (OSINT) and digital investigations. Through a partnership with the University of Southern California Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism, both students and professionals will have a chance to be a part of two days of training we will provide in Atlanta in the fall. Look out for registration in the coming months.
