July 13, 2020

The Ida B. Wells Society awards $1,200 stipends each year to two members of its chapter at Howard University. The funds support the students’ journalistic work with The Hilltop, Howard’s student newspaper.

This year’s recipients are Donovan Thomas and Ahmari Anthony. Thomas, president of the Howard chapter of the Society and news editor for The Hilltop, is considering applying to be editor-in-chief for the coming year. He is interning with the Raleigh News & Observer this summer.

Anthony, also a member of the Society’s Howard chapter was previously not a Hilltop staffer. A journalism professor called her a thoughtful, hard-working and talented student who already thinks like an editor already and will be a great addition to The Hilltop.
