The Ida B. Wells Society Partners with The Diversity Pledge Institute

January 24, 2022

The Ida B. Wells Society is teaming up with The Diversity Pledge Institute in a new effort to create a sustainable model of recruitment and retention of diverse talent in investigative reporting.

The Diversity Pledge Institute is a nonprofit dedicated to research, analysis and education related to diversity in journalism with a goal of solving the diversity pipeline problem, improving retention rates associated with diversity, equity and inclusion; and supporting journalists’ career growth.

In line with its mission of increasing the presence, profile and power of journalists of color in the field of investigative reporting, the Society will partner with the Diversity Pledge Institute to strengthen the pipeline of diverse talent in investigative reporting by matching Society member journalists seeking opportunities with newsroom employers committed to their success.

How it works
Society journalists who are interested in seeking employment opportunities, and voluntarily agree to share information in a soon-to-be distributed survey from DPI, will be matched according to their responses with newsroom employers committed to the success of their employees. These employers have been vetted by the DPI team. Additionally, DPI will track and report data to the Society on the number of successful employment matches and retention rates of Society members participating in the program. This information will be used to better understand the needs of a sustainable recruitment and retention model for investigative journalists.

The survey to opt-in to this program along with more details will be sent out to Society members in a separate email later this month.
