Ida B. Wells Society hosts trainings in South Africa
This September, the Ida B. Wells Society launched an investigative reporting workshop in South Africa, a global extension of the Society’s mission to recruit and retain journalists of color. The fellowship is funded through the Open Society Foundation, which also supports the Society.
“The work we do as a Society is not just an issue in the U.S.,” says Ron Nixon, who leads the trainings. “Most of the investigative reporting in South Africa is not done by Black reporters, even though Black individuals make up the majority of the nation.”
Held virtually due to the ongoing global coronavirus pandemic, the three-month workshop includes six fellows as they develop investigative reporting skills in sourcing, newswriting, documenting and more.
